Finding Solid Grounds in Uncertainty

When we’re planning a wedding, we paint a picture of the life that we’ll build together. It may have a house in it, children, maybe even a couple of pets. The realist recognizes that there will be disagreements; but, we likely envision it like a sitcom couple’s fight that is resolved with us cuddled up on a couch and happy again by the end of it.
What we don’t plan for is sickness. We don’t plan for job loss, infidelity, or infertility. We don’t imagine the day one or both of us start to ponder the question, “Did I make a mistake? Should we talk divorce?” I’ve been there. Are you? I know the fear and the pain. I know you’re feeling like you’ve lost control and the uncertainty can be terrifying.
AND I KNOW THIS. “FOR I KNOW THE PLANS I HAVE FOR YOU,” DECLARES THE LORD, “PLANS TO PROSPER YOU AND NOT TO HARM YOU, PLANS TO GIVE YOU HOPE AND A FUTURE.” ~ JEREMIAH 29:11
Just think about that for a moment. When we’re lost and confused, God is solid and steady. When we have no idea what lies ahead of us, He’s already there preparing the way. When we’re hurt and alone, God has plans to give us hope and a future.
Regardless of why you’re struggling, now is the time to relinquish the control over it to God. Now is the time to pray and listen with your heart for His answer. Come to Him with no expectations or preconceived notion of the outcome. He has plans for you and they may not mirror your own. Come to God on your knees in raw honesty. Be open with Him and yourself about your shortcomings, as well as your pain and your fear. Then leave it with Him. Don’t grab it back. Don’t seek to control the next step or fuss over the unknown. “I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. Listen for Him to show you the way there.
Challenge: This week lay yourself bare at the feet of the Lord and allow Him to be your compass and light. What is weighing on your heart today? If you’re willing to share it, I’d be happy to pray over it with you.
